ABOUT LIGHTHOUSE FAMILY COUNSELING:

Lighthouse Family Counseling was founded by Kate Goree, who is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC).

Her motivation for starting her own company is her desire to help people address their mental health issues. She also wants to provide easily accessible and more affordable counseling services to as many people as possible. Kate holds an Associate of Arts degree from Hesston College, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Pre Art Therapy degree from Arcadia University, and a Master’s degree in Counseling from Immaculata University. Due to the demand of need for counseling hours, Kate has expanded her practice to accommodate the amount of clients that desire to be seen.

A MESSAGE FROM JENNIFER MULLOWNEY, MSW, LCSW: TELEHEALTH ONLY

“I obtained my Master of Social Work degree from Widener University and began providing therapeutic services in an outpatient setting in 2001. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and work with individuals aged 18 years and older. My goal has always been to provide, first and foremost, support and guidance. I firmly believe in working with my clients when developing their treatment goals.
As a therapist, my favorite thing is seeing my clients feel better and improve. I believe finding the right fit with a therapist is an essential part of the therapy process. As part of this process, I also follow an individualized and integrative approach that includes cognitive behavioral, supportive and solution focused therapies, as well as psycho-education. My focus areas are depression, anxiety, grief/loss, relationship and family issues, as well as women’s issues.

A MESSAGE FROM SARAH MAYLAND, MS, NCC, RMT, CPT, FNS, CPPC

“As a professional counselor, my mission is to empower my clients with safe space and practical strategies to move forward on their individual healing journeys.  Returning to the world of clinical mental health counseling after over five years in the coaching space, I bring knowledge, skills, and experience as a personal trainer, fitness nutrition specialist, prenatal/postpartum coach, astrologer, and reiki master teacher, having supported clients in building healthy relationships with all aspects of themselves – mind, body, and spirit.

Over the years, I have worked with clients struggling with concerns like: anxiety, ADHD, disordered eating patterns, grief/loss, substance abuse, body image, narcissistic parents or partners, navigating major life transitions, self-trust/self-confidence, boundary-setting, self-care, finding meaning in alternative spiritual practices, and energy work.  I use an eclectic approach tailored to each client that pulls from multiple modalities such as: psychodynamic therapy, existential therapy, solution-focused therapy, client-centered therapy, Jungian therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational-Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Internal Family Systems therapy (IFS).

I am passionate about working with women, the LGBTQ+ community, expectant and new moms, older adults, and those caring for aging parents.  If you are looking for someone to meet you where you are, accept you as you are, and help you move yourself forward in the way you want, I’m excited to work with you!

A MESSAGE FROM PAT PAVLAK, MA, LPC: TELEHEALTH ONLY

Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed with life stressors, relationship issues, or dealing with difficult emotions, taking time to listen to what your feelings are telling you can help you take action to mentally feel much lighter. Self-awareness can be the key to creating meaningful changes. I primarily use mindfulness-based techniques to help adults and couples get unstuck, so they can identify goals and eliminate barriers to moving forward. I also offer Christian counseling for clients, if asked.

My counseling style is empathetic and holistic. I use a strengths-based approach to collaborate with individual adults and couples to build on existing skills. I use different therapies based on each person’s need, including Solution Focused Therapy and Choice Therapy. I’ve worked with adults in an outpatient setting on a variety of issues, including substance abuse, relationship issues, stress management, poor self-esteem, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, life coaching, and personal growth development.

I believe that in every stage of life, we can find joy and be intentional about creating this for ourselves. I am enthusiastic about helping each person find what they want for their life and then walking alongside to supply encouragement and support.

A MESSAGE FROM VICTORIA SMITH, BS

Rebecca Shoemaker, MA, LPC, NCC

A MESSAGE FROM REBECCA SHOEMAKER, MA, LPC, NCC, CCATP,       C-DBT: TELEHEALTH ONLY

“As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I most enjoy the relationships that are developed between the client and myself. I have always loved helping people. My own therapy journey inspired and motivated me to start my life over again. I had a Business Administration degree and I went back to graduate school to pursue my Master’s degree in Professional Clinical Counseling. I worked at an outpatient facility for dual diagnoses. Afterward, I worked on a methadone unit in Philadelphia. I have also worked for a non-profit agency in outpatient therapy.

My main therapeutic style is that of Person-Centered Therapy, where the therapist and client process what is going on in their life. I enjoy using Cognitive Behavior Therapy and specialize in Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Although our sessions will be through telehealth, I have found that I have developed even deeper connections with my clients through this mode. I work with adolescents, individual adults, couples, and families.

My goal is to help clients reach their own goals. I enjoy building rapport and helping accomplish whatever goals are set.”

A MESSAGE FROM BERNADETTE VERA, BA, MA:

“As a Professional Counselor, I value collaboration while building our cornerstone of trust in the therapeutic relationship. This will pave the way to nurturing a meaningful and fulfilling experience supporting your next steps forward, and trust in your authentic self. I aim to invite a warm, respectful, non-judgmental, and safe experience that emphasizes my role of leveraging expertise yet remaining a student to your life. I value your story, and this is your journey. I am here as a stepping stone to unveil your strengths, assist positive trajectories, and guide your self-discovery toward the forward motion you desire.

I meld Person-centered and Cognitive Behavioral theoretical approaches in our committed fulfilling experience together. We will move through a lifestyle approach that encourages mind-body connection promoting a healthy well-being and catalyzing the agency in your life.

I worked in the elite and Olympic gymnastics industry for 20+ years and am a wife and mother. I have experience working with individuals from the pediatric through adulthood populations and truly enjoy working with all life stages. I have supported those suffering from anxiety, depression, anger management, relationship challenges, body image concerns, low self-esteem, suicidality, and obsessive-compulsive behaviors, along with improving introspective skills.

Discomfort leads to discovery which nourishes us and grounds our feet to view life filled with opportunity versus obstacles. I find that humility and humor are key traits to carry along with us as we evolve and live in the moment.

Jim King, MDIV, LMFT

A MESSAGE FROM JIM KING, MA, MDIV, LMFT:

“As a licensed Marriage and Family therapist, I believe a good therapeutic relationship between therapist and client is a key component to the counseling experience. I have over 17 years of counseling experience and bring to my clients a sense of humor, wisdom, and insight in helping them through their particular issues and guiding them in obtaining the skills and insight that are necessary for good mental health, well-being , peace and happiness. I’ve worked with individuals, couples and families, providing therapy for many life issues, such as anxiety, depression, couples conflicts, relationship problems, as well as self-identity and self-esteem issues. I also bring experience in the area of pastoral and spiritual counseling, that many times is helpful to one’s mental health. My counseling philosophy has been formed, not only by my education and counseling practice, but a diversified experience of life itself, having been a construction worker, a high school teacher, a youth minister, a corporate executive and a college professor. I approach clients without judgement and try to meet them where they are, and gently guide them forward with insight, trust and compassion. I use an integrative approach to counseling, and my methods are basically humanistic and client centered, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems model, Solutions Therapy and Narrative Therapy, among others. I look forward to working with you.”

Susan Katz, MA, LCSW, CMFT

A MESSAGE FROM SUSAN KATZ, MA, LCSW, CMFT:

“Has there been a time in your life when you felt overwhelmed, confused, conflicted, frightened, or burdened? A time when life’s journey presented multiple paths and you turned down one more difficult than expected, and you got scratched and bruised by the bushes overgrown thorns? If you answered yes, then counseling can serve as a vehicle supporting you through life’s challenges to achieve emotional health and well-being. Caring, collaborative, and compassionate counseling can help you heal your emotional wounds, your fears can be diminished, and the perceived darkness and gloom can be replaced by a new vision for yourself and new possibilities.

I have been a practicing social worker for over 25 years and my approach of building trust, healing wounds, and gaining insights will support you to live your best life. My counseling style is compassionate, caring, and collaborative. I use an integrative approach to therapy that includes Cognitive Behavior, Inter Systems Model, Emotionally Focused Therapy, visualization, and mindfulness, as well as other techniques. I work with children, adults, couples, and families to reduce conflict and bring more satisfaction and harmony into people’s lives.”

Deirdre Barthle, MS, LPC

A MESSAGE FROM DEIRDRE BARTHLE, MS, LPC:

“My style of therapy draws from Cognitive Behavioral, Acceptance and Commitment therapy/mindfulness and Motivational Interviewing. My Passion is for learning your story and working alongside you to find the solutions that work for you. Each person comes to therapy with their own story and is the author of their life. I’m here to help you examine what you’ve already lived through and find the path forward.

I have extensive experience working with trauma, depression, anxiety and co-occurring issues. I work with men’s issues (survivors of abuse) and work within the LGBTQIA and alternative lifestyles. In my work with people with trauma I’ve learned that we often need the reminder – no matter what you have struggled with; you are a survivor and that needs to be brought to light. Keeping that in mind, I am guided by the client towards the goals that they feel are necessary for their treatment.”

Antoinette Perrotta, MS, LPC

A MESSAGE FROM ANTOINETTE PERROTTA, MS, LPC: TELEHEALTH ONLY

“As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I believe the relationship between the therapist and client is an integral aspect of the counseling experience, as I work closely with my clients to ensure they meet their goals. I work with both client centered and solution-focused approaches, helping you identify the areas you want to work on, while also helping you come to an awareness and understanding about who you are and the direction you want to take. Creating an environment that allows you to feel comfortable and supported is important to ensure that the time we spend together is both positive and productive.

In addition to working with adults, I have worked extensively with adolescents, young adults and their families as a school counselor, developing plans to work through academic and social-emotional struggles. My experience includes working with clients to cope with everything from major life transitions, depression, anxiety and loss to the stress of everyday life.”

Jane Brown, LPC, CAADC, CCPG

A MESSAGE FROM JANE BROWN, MA, LPC, CAADC, CCPG

“When challenges in life feel overwhelming, an open and reliable person can be just what we need to explore and discover creative solutions. I believe we have the strength within us to resolve problems, but often we need help to reimagine and channel that strength.

I have been providing counseling to those with a wide range of personal and mental health concerns for over fifteen years. My experience has been in helping those work through and understand how to cope with adverse childhood experiences, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, origin of family dynamics, transitions to adulthood, career choice and change, as well as addictions to substances and gambling.

My counseling style is empathetic, supporting, and empowering. I have worked with adolescents, adults, and families in the hospital as well as the outpatient setting and I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing techniques. I sincerely enjoy working collaboratively to identify goals and maneuver through barriers to assist others in getting to the place where they want to be.”
